Helen Sisko, 95, of Hawkins died on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Care & Rehab
– Ladysmith.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew, 6 sons, Dennis, Bruce, Brian, James,
Scott and Jerome, 1 daughter, Andrea Lapacinski, 18 grandchildren and 7
great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Ray Lazar.
A funeral mass for Helen Sisko will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 17th
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawkins with Fr. Inna Pothireddy officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Southfork. Helen’s family will
receive friends from 4 PM until 8 PM on Friday, February 16th at Nash-Jackan
Funeral Home in Ladysmith where a prayer service will be held at 7 PM. There
will also be an hour of visitation prior to the funeral on Saturday at the
Church.
Memorials in Helen’s name may be made to the St. Mary’s Alter Society or the
Hawkins Area Library.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Andrew; her children, Dennis
(Darlene) Sisko, Bruce (Margaret) Sisko, Andrea (Bern) Lapacinski, Brian (Kris)
Sisko, James (Joy) Sisko, Scott (Mary) Sisko, and Jerome Sisko; her brother, Ray
Lazar; sister-in-law, Geraldine Lazar; eighteen grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s
Church in Hawkins with Fr. Inna Pothireddy officiating. Burial is at St. Mary’s
Cemetery. The wake will be 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday, February 16 at Nash-Jackan
Funeral Home in Ladysmith where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. There
will also be an hour of visitation prior to the funeral on Saturday at the
church.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Altar Society or the Hawkins Area
Library.

Helen (Lazar) Sisko, 95, of Hawkins, died on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at Care &
Rehab in Ladysmith.
Helen was born on June 11, 1922, to Michael and Martha Lazar in the town of
Hawkins. She grew up on a farm north of the village of Hawkins graduating from
Hawkins High School in 1940, where she enjoyed her algebra and physics classes.
After graduating from high school, Helen moved to Chicago where she worked at
Motorola Radio during the World War II years. She married Andrew Sisko after his
return from service on Aug. 18, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawkins.
They purchased a farm in Hawkins in 1946, where they lived, farmed and raised
eight children.
Two years ago, Helen and Andrew celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Helen
was active as a St. Mary’s Church catechism teacher and with the St. Mary’s
Altar Society. She also served on the Hawkins Library Committee and American
Legion Auxiliary. She served as a 4-H project leader and a Cub Scout den mother.
She was active with the Hawkins schools’ PTA. Helen was an avid reader in her
later years, but in her earlier years enjoyed baking, sewing and beekeeping.
Helen is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Andrew; her children,
Dennis (Darlene) Sisko, Bruce (Margaret) Sisko, Andrea (Bern) Lapacinski, Brian
(Kris) Sisko, James (Joy) Sisko, Scott (Mary) Sisko, and Jerome Sisko; her
brother, Ray Lazar; her sister-in-law, Geraldine Lazar; 18 grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Maureen (Ken) Henneman; her parents,
Michael and Martha (Misialek) Lazar; her sisters, Elizabeth, Stevfania, Marie
Strelka, Sophie Cupinski, Alvina Palcheck, Regina Haines and Florence Babula and
her brothers, Paul, Frank, Steve and Leo.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 at St. Mary’s Church
in Hawkins with Fr. Inna Pothireddy officiating. The wake will be from 4 to 8
p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith where a prayer
service will be held at 7 p.m. There will also be an hour of visitation prior to
the funeral on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Altar Society or the Hawkins Area
Library.
