The American Legion Van Huzen-Fritz Post 123 announce "Badger Boy" for 1970.
Mr. Brian Schultz has been selected by the Owen-Withee High School faculty as
Badger Boy for 1970. Brian, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schultz of Route 2,
rural Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.). He is a member of the junior class. His
alternate is Mr. Brian Mahoney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mahoney Jr. of Owen.
Brian will attend Badger Boys State at Ripon College, Ripon, Wis. in June of
1970.
The purpose of Badger Boys State is to give individuals first had knowledge of
the functioning go of state and local government. Brian will help to elect
candidates, gut up elections, campaign for his candidates and count ballots. He
will become aware of the elected officials at both the state and local level. He
will learn about how they are elected, term of office, and general duties. Many
activities are planned which made a week at Badger Boys State educational,
interesting, and fun.
The voting this year for Badger Boy was close. A greater number of individuals
received votes than ever before. More boys received first place votes. The
margin between first and second was closer. The winner had a lower total which
spread the vots out among many qualified candidates. Congratulations to the
class and to Brian Schultz.
