The American Legion Auxiliary, Van Huzen-Fritz Post 123, announce the Badger
Girl" for 1970.
Miss Susan Hasleton has been elected by the faculty of Owen-Withee High School
as "Badger Girl." She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hasleton of Withee (Clark
Co.), Wisconsin. She is a member of the Junior class.f Her alternate is Miss
Janet Looker. Janet is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Looker of Owen.
As Badger Girl, Sue will represent her school at Badger Girls State to be held
at the University of Wisconsin in Madison June 13 to 20, 1970.
Badger Girls State, through concentrated study and practice, gives each girl
practical and firsthand knowledge of the organizations and functioning of state
and local government in Wisconsin. Its purpose is to inspire each individual to
undertake the responsibilities of citizenship earnestly.
Instruction is provided by University of Wisconsin faculty members, state and
local officials, and American Legion Counselors.
As an added tribute to the girls in this year's Junior class, there were a
larger number of girls who received votes than ever before. There were a great
number of individuals who received first place votes. The margin between the
winner and the first alternate was closer than it has been before. There were
five girls tied for third, who were within five points of the winner.
Congratulations to the class and congratulations to Susan. Have fun Sue!!
