Sagen, Edgar John (3 January 1944 – 14 February 2018) With Flag
Edgar Sagen II, age 74, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI died Wednesday, February 14,
2018 at the Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids. On his last day,
family and friends surrounded him.
Edgar John Sagen II was born on January 3, 1944, in Neillsville, WI the son of
Edgar and Eleanor (Epding) Sagen. He attended school in Neillsville and then
served in the Army Reserve. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to
Neillsville and on June 19, 1965 he was united in marriage to Charlene Goettl at
St. Rosa Lima Catholic Church in Cadott. Shortly after the birth of their first
child, they moved to Pittsville, for a short time and then to Wisconsin Rapids,
where they raised their family and Ed worked at the Port Edward’s papermill for
40 years before retiring.
He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, and
enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and traveling to concerts and shows.
He is survived by three children, Carla (Leo Dewitt) Koeshall of Wisconsin
Rapids, Julie (Jim) Kees of Kaukauna, and Ed (Rebekah) Sagen of Troup, TX; six
grandchildren, Kami (Matt) Peeters, Kristin (Mike) Moleski, Kevin (fiancé,
Samantha Sweat) Koeshall, Maranna Ferkey, Dillan Ferkey and Seth Sagen, four
great grandchildren, three sisters, Sylvia Sagen of Neillsville, Dorothy (Jim)
Ripke of Nekoosa, and Barbara (Richard) Volovsek of Eagan, MN, and a special
friend, Addie Leake of Neillsville.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene, his parents, and a great
grandson, Oliver Peeters.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Edgar will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday,
February 20, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant
will be Rev. Varkey V. Joseph. Vicente Cortez, organist and St. Mary’s Choir
will provide music. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m., Rosary service,
Monday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.,
Tuesday at St. Mary’s.
