Brenner, Catherine “Kutch” (Abts) (29 MAY 1927 - 6 FEB 2018)
Catherine “Kutch” Brenner, 90, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at the
Chippewa Manor Nursing Home, under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Catherine was born May 29, 1927, in Arcadia, the daughter of George and Margaret
(Zeller) Abts.
She married Orville Brenner Oct. 7, 1947, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in
Arcadia. They farmed in Elk Mound and the Town of Ruby, and settled in Cadott,
where she was a cook for 19 years at St. Joseph Catholic School.
Catherine was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish. She sang in the choir for
many years, and was a member of the Happy Wanders, St. Anne’s and St. Helen’s
circles. Kutch enjoyed fishing, golfing, square dancing, and knitting hats and
mittens each year for the mitten tree in Cadott. She and Orville enjoyed many
winters in Winter Haven, Fla.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years – Orville; children – Rodney (Nanna),
Winter, Karlene (John) Lee, Holcombe, Lou Ann (Ned) Willkom, Cadott, Patricia
(Ronald) Pozarski, Burnsville, Minn., and Lori (Roger) Zumbrock, Chippewa Falls;
sisters – Carmen VerHagen, Mary Lou Sobotta and Jane Abts; brothers – Eugene
Abts, William Abts and Daniel Abts; 16 grandchildren; and 27
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter – Charlotte Goodman; sisters
– Moraine Suchla, Dawn Kostner, Marjore Rumpel and Evelyn Laehn; and brother –
Melvin Abts.
A service of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, at St.
Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott, with Deacon Ned Willkom officiating.
Interment followed the service at the St. Rose Cemetery in the Town of Sigel.
Visitation was from 9-11 a.m., Saturday morning, at the church.
