Bornhofen, John A. (9 FEB 1892 – 18 JUN 1970)
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church
in Merrill for John A. Bornhofen, 78, of Merrill, a former assistant
superintendent of the Carnation Milk Plant in Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) for 17
years, who died Thursday. Burial was made in st. Francis Cemetery, Merrill.
Mr. Bornhofen was born February 9, 1892 in Neillsville (Clark Co.). He was
married in Marinette on October 22, 1919, to Maybelle Kampine, who survives.
A graduate of St. Thomas College in St. Paul, he was affiliated with the Oatman
Condensary in Neillsville from 1919 to 1929, and was assistant superintendent of
the Carnation Milk Company plant in Owen for 17 years. He was a former owner of
the Jean, Hat and Dress Shops in Merrill and Antigo. For the past 10 years he
had been the bookkeeper for Dr. William Hilt and business manager for the Antigo
Jean, Hat and Dress Shop.
In Owen, Mr. Bornhofen was a president of the Chamber of Commerce and an
alderman, and was active in other community and school projects.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. William Hilt, Lake Pesobic, Merrill, and
two grandchildren.
