Nielsen, Beatrice Eleanor (16 November 1929 – 25 February 2018)

Beatrice E. Nielsen, 88, of Greenwood passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Neillsville Care & Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Rev. Brian Campbell will officiate, and burial will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.

Beatrice Eleanor Schwarze was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Greenwood to Harvey and Martha (Franz) Schwarze. When she was a young girl, her family bought land south of Owen and began farming there. Beatrice attended North Bright School and Owen High School, graduating in 1947. She moved to Minneapolis, where she did housework until March of 1949. Beatrice was united in marriage to Henry Nielsen June 25, 1949, at the United Lutheran Church in Greenwood. They farmed with her husband’s parents until purchasing their own farm west of Greenwood in 1951. She was a homemaker, farmwife, and worked at Weyerhaeuser in Marshfield for several years. Beatrice later began doing homecare in the Greenwood area, taking care of the elderly. In 1993, they sold the farm to their son, David, and moved into Greenwood. She continued to do part-time homecare for a few years. Her husband, Henry died July 31, 2005. Beatrice continued to live in Greenwood until the time of her death.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, was active in the Ladies Aide and was a summertime camp counselor at Luther Park Bible Camp. Beatrice had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and friends, quilting, her flower garden, traveling, playing UNO and word search puzzles.

She is survived by her children: Harlan Nielsen (wife Judy Meyer) of Greenwood, Berdell Nielsen (husband Paul Boutwell of Mazomanie, Roy Nielsen of Hillpoint, Larry Nielsen (Dawn Kwick) of Greenwood and David (Sheryl) Nielsen of Greenwood; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Nielsen of Granton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son, Harris Nielsen, Dec. 19, 2009.
