Mikkelson, Ellen Ann (8 AUG 1970)
White gladioli and carnations decorated St. Paul's University Chapel in Madison
Saturday, August 8, 1970, when Miss ellen Ann Mikkelson became the bride of
Patrick Kafka. The Rev. Henry McMurrough performed the 4 p.m. double ring rites
and celebrated the Nuptial Mass. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Mikkelson, La Crosse, and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Kafka, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.).
Nuptial music was provided by Mr. John McKern on the harpsichord and organ.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, pledged vows in a candlelight
organza and Alencon lace gown fashioned with a high neckline, short Juliet
sleeves and an A-line skirt, which featured a detachable chapel length train. A
lace bow held her shoulder length veil in place, and white roses cascaded in her
bouquet.
Maid of honor was Miss Elizabeth Hickey, with Miss Sandra Dehne as bridesmaid.
When they preceded the bride down the aisle, they were wearing powder blue
sleeveless gowns detailed with pink satin ribbon at the empire waistlines, and
wore pink satin bows in their hair. They carried colonial flower arrangements of
white roses and pink carnations.
Richard Swiontek of Green Bay was best man, with James Bach as groomsman. The
guests were seated by John Mikkelson of La Crosse, brother of the bride, and
John Boardman of Eau Claire.
Following the ceremony, dinner was served to 100 guests att the Ivy Inn, where
the Champagne reception was also held. Friday night the rehearsal dinner for 16
guests was served at the Ivy Inn, with parents of the groom serving as hosts.
The bride's mother greeted guests wearing a pale blue two piece brocade suit
with white and matching accessories. Her corsage was formed of pink and white
roses. A white A-line double knit dress with powder blue accents and matching
blue coat was worn by the mother of the groom. She wore white accessories and
pink roses formed her corsage.
After a wedding trip to Wisconsin Dells, Mr. and Mrs. Kafka will be at home in
Madison. The bride, a graduate of Wisconsin State University at Eau Claire and a
member of Alpha Xi Delta, is a registered nurse at the Veterans' Administration
Hospital in Madison. Mr. Kafka, who also attended Wisconsin State University at
Eau Claire, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon, will be a student at the
University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy.
