Barr, Mary Ellen (6 September 1883 – 4 November 1974)
Mrs. Fred (Mary) Barr, Sr., 91, of Greenwood, died November 4 in Neillsville,
where she had resided since October 1971.
Mrs. Barr, the former Mary Ellen Boehm, daughter of Mr. and mrs. William Boehm,
was born September 6, 1883, in Greeley, Ia.
She was married to Fred Barr June 19, 1904, in Greeley, Ia. He died December 16,
1957. They celebrated their Golden wedding in 1954.
They lived in Montana from 1911 until they came in 1923 to this area on a farm
where they lived until they retired and moved to the city of Greenwood.
Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Paul (Frances) Marg of Eau Claire; Mrs.
Leonard (Edna) Paulson of Spokane, Wa.; and Mrs. Ervin (Anna Foe) Heck of
Greenwood; four sons: David of Acampo, Ca.; Jake and Fred, Jr., of Greenwood;
Thomas of Cameron. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also
survive.
Mrs. Barr was a member of Forest Queen Royal Neighbors Camp.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Hill Funeral Home. The Rev.
Eugene Antrim pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was
made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers, all grandsons were: Jack, James, Larry and Tom Barr, Terry Heck and
Ben Heck.
Gary Schultz sang, “Rock of Ages” and “Beyond the Sunset” accompanied on the
organ by Mrs. Richard Korn.
People from away attending were David Barr of Lodi, Ca.; Mrs. Edna Paulson of
Spokane, Wa.; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Barr and daughters of Cameron; Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Marg and Larry Barr of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barr of Sun Prairie; Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Barr and family of Oshkosh; Mrs. Anna Althoff and daughter, Rosella
of La Crosse; George Althoff of Bangor; and relatives from the state of Iowa,
and relatives and friends from Cameron, Loyal, Neillsville, Eau Claire and the
Greenwood area.
