Helen Arneson, 89, beloved wife, mother and the world’s best
grandmother/great-grandmother “GG” passed away surrounded by family Sunday, Feb.
18, 2018.
Helen was born June 18, 1928, in Jim Falls, to Clara (Turner) and Anton Hrdlicka.
She married Ralph Arneson in 1946, after he returned from World War II.
Ralph and Helen resided near Cornell, and were owners of the Cornell Gambles
Store, which later changed to Hardware Hank.
The couple was adventurous, traveling around the United States and the world.
They spent many winters in Mexico in their fifth-wheel trailer, camping on the
beach with friends. In later years, they wintered in Brownsville, Texas, with
their fifth-wheel trailer.
Helen loved fishing, gardening and especially cooking for family. The best of
the family gatherings were fish fries at her home on the Chippewa River.
She is survived by her siblings – Corrine Ollis, Irene Janatis (Bob) and James
(Mary Jane) Hrdlicka; children – Carole Lillis, Joanne Willi (Bill Cunningham),
Kris Arneson (Leigh Stepan), Eric (Kris) Arneson, Bill Arneson (Debora Stonkey)
and (Toni) Mike Arneson; loved grandchildren – Toni Ausman, Nicole Lillis, Pete
Willi, Amanda Kragness, Josh Arneson, Cari Kretschman, Jolie Wittrock, Jeremy
Arneson and Caleb Arneson; great-grandchildren – Adam Ausman, Ella Ausman,
Lauren Willi, Cloe Wittrock, Kaitlyn Wittrock amd Anabelle Wittrock; and many
grand-dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; many siblings; her son – Doug Arneson;
and her grandson – Brandon Arneson.
The family thanks Lake Hallie Memory Care staff and St. Joseph’s Hospice for
their wonderful care of their mother.

A memorial service will be held in the early spring in Cornell.
