The August Commencement at Wisconsin State University, Eau Claire, the third
commencement for the year 1970, took place in the University Arena on Saturday,
August 8, 1970, beginning at 9:45 a.m. Degrees were awarded to 213. Recipients
include the first three to be awarded the Master of Arts degree from the Eau
Claire University; all are in the field of English.
The August Commencement brought to 1,122, the number of degrees awarded by the
University during 1970. Of these, 1,061 were awarded on the undergraduate level
and 61 on the graduate.
President Leonard Haas presided at the 1970 August Commencement, with Dr. James
A. Riley, regent, presenting the diplomas. Dr. Maxwell P. Schoenfeld, associate
professor of history, recipient of the 1970 Johnson Foundation Excellence in
Teaching Award, gave the address.
Kathleen Ann Stock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stock of Withee (Clark Co.,
Wis.), graduated August 8, 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
Charlene Kay Hansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. Hansen, Route 2, Withee,
graduated on August 8, 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and minor
in French. She is employed in eau Claire until December, when she plans to
vacation in Central America.
