The Mattes Livestock Auction Market Inc. of Thorp (Clark Co.), Wisconsin,
observed its 33rd Anniversary with three days of sales.
The first, a Special Horse Sale, was held Sunday, September 20, 1970. 232 horses
were consigned from Montana and the Northwester part of Wisconsin. Pat Burke of
River Falls, Wis. was awarded a $25 Savings Bond for being the largest
consignor. Robert Diemel of Nichols, Wis., also received a $25 Savings Bond for
being the largest buyer.
Winners in the cash drawings: Rose Micke, Stanley, Wis. - $5; Joe Verschay,
Greenwood, Wis. - $10; Stanley Slandacker, Holcombe, Wis. - $10.
Our second sale, Monday, sept 21, 1124 cows, calves and pigs were sold. $25
Savings Bonds were awarded to Harold Mochtan, Marshfield, Wis., bury for
Packerland Packing Co. of Green Bay, Wis., as the largest buyer, and to Clyde
Haemer of Owen as the largest consignor.
Winners of the cash drawing swere: Matt Gradinjan, Phillips, Wis. - $10; Paul
Johnson, Exland, Wis. - $5; Leo Stewart, Withee, Wis. - $10.
Our third sale, a special Feeder and Dairy sale, saw 565 animals go through the
ring.
Winners of the $25 Savings Bonds were Mike Arends, Blue Earth, Minn., the
largest buyer, and Raymond Baldeschwiler, Thorp, Wis., the largest consignor.
Winners in the cash drawings: William Gourkink, Baldwin, Wis. - $10; Robert
Gulcynski, Thorp, Wis. - $10; Winslow Kowalski, Hawkins, Wis. - $5.
