Steivang, John (8 MAR 1910 - 2 SEP 2003)
John Steivang, 93, Stanley, died Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Memorial Nursing
& Rehab Center in Medford.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Plombon Funeral
Home in Stanley. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, in Stanley. Visitation
begins at 5 p.m.

John Steivang, age 93, of 625 N. Franklin St., Stanley, Wis., passed away on
September 2, 2003, at Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Medford, Wis.
He was born on March 8, 1910, in Stanley, the son of John and Gusta (Cranberg)
Steivang. He grew up in Stanley attending area schools and graduating from
Stanley High School in 1928. He was united in marriage to Borghild Husby on May
23, 1934, at the home of her parents. He worked at the Studebaker garage in
Stanley and then owned and operated the Northwest Oil Co. and later the Bartlett
Co. of Eau Claire. In later years he worked at United Building Center in Stanley
until his retirement.
In his younger years, John was an excellent athlete and was an avid sports fan
throughout his life. His greatest enjoyment, though, was his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
He is survived by one daughter, Ann (Jack) Olson of Medford, Wis.; one son, John
“Butch” (Lynn) Steivang of Stanley; five grandchildren, John (Chris) Olson of
Medford, Jayne (Sean) Alwin of Wausau, Justin and Ian Steivang both of River
Falls and Travis (Kelly) Steivang of Chippewa Falls; eight great-grandchildren,
Elizabeth, Patrick, Zachary, Josh, Alyssa, Christian, Kelsey and Sydney. He is
also survived by one brother, Melvin (Nancy) of Stanley; three sisters, Lunna
Ellsworth and Marie Richter, both of Waupun, Wis., and Gudrum Canney of Elm
Grove, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Borghild in 1987; one sister,
Julie McLeod; and four brothers, Martin, Arnie, Toby and Alfred.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Friday at Plombon Funeral Home
in Stanley, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call one hour
prior to services at the funeral home.
