Swann, Ellen E. (27 September 1932 – 12 March 2018)
Ellen E. Swann, 85, of Edgerton passed away Monday, March 12, 2018, at Agrace
Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Janesville. She was born in Neillsville
Sept. 27, 1932, the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Carl) Borde. She grew up
in Neillsville and attended Lutheran School until high school.
Ellen married Clifford E. “Buzz” Swann Feb. 10, 1951, in Neillsville, and soon
after, they move to St. Louis, MO, for his work, where their daughter, Diane,
was born. The couple moved to Edgerton in 1952, where she and Buzz lived on the
family farm for almost 66 years. She was a true, hard-working farm wife and
partner to Buzz.
Ellen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was quick to smile
and laugh. A lifelong Wisconsin farmer, she spent her semi-retirement traveling
around the world including Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand and
China. However, she was always eager to come home to the land and farm that she
loved. After the animals left the Swann farm, she looked after a hard of farm
cats and lovingly watched as her grandson tried futilely to catch and tame them.
She took great joy in the fruits of her husband’s gardening and devoted herself
to her family above all else.
Ellen is survived, by her husband of 67 years, Buzz; her daughter Diane
Michener; and grandson Blake (Nicole Gulatz) Michener.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara Borde and son-in-law
Lon Michener.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Apfel
Ehlert Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 315 Lord St. (Hwy 51) Edgerton. Rev.
Wilfred Grieser and Rev. Carl Seeger co-officiated. A private burial will take
place in Fassett Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation took place Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the
Apfel Ehlert Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice, Janesville.
