Almquist, Ruth M. (Mackie) (3 APR 1929 - 17 MAR 2018)
Ruth M. Almquist charged into heaven on Friday, March 16, 2018 now surrounded by
the loving arms of her Lord and family.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 23 at Ritchay Funeral
Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be at Ritchay Funeral Home on Friday
from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial
Park.
Ruth was born on April 3, 1929 to Axel and Hilda Mackie. She spent the majority
of her youth in Minnesota working at various resorts until she met her future
husband, Robert W. Almquist and moved to Wisconsin Rapids. They married on Nov.
9, 1950 and welcomed five of their six children during the next four and a half
years.
Ruth perfected the art of multi-tasking. Her many talents included sewing,
floral arranging, canning, cooking and knitting. You name it, she could do it.
She was mother to all and you never left her home hungry. Ruth found most
happiness at her cottage up north. It was there that she created flower gardens,
which were the envy of all. You would most likely find her weeding and planting
until dusk. Bob and Ruth traveled extensively and she especially enjoyed their
trips to Bob’s Navy reunions. Her magnetic spirit and personality endeared her
to everyone she met. She had a great love of animals and the family was never
without a dog. In later years, her dogs became her constant companions.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert; five children, Robert Simon (Sarah)
Almquist, Jill Marie Clapp, Lynn A. (special friend, Bill) Almquist, Joan M.
Almquist and Patrick W. (Brenda) Almquist; sister, Elsie Mae Mackie;
stepbrother, Edwin Nokua; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; son, John T. Almquist; stepmother,
Mamie Mackie; two brothers, Floyd Mackie and Chester Mackie; stepsister, Violet
Wilson; and her beloved Yorkie, Bobbi Jo.
Ruth, you were an amazing woman and we will forever cherish the memories made
with you.
