Hedlund, Florence E. (Smith) (31 AUG 1925 - 21 MAR 2018)

Florence E. Hedlund, 92, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at her residence in the city of Medford under the loving care of her family and Hope Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 25 at Medford United Methodist Church. Her son, Rev. Kurt Hedlund and Pastor Angel Rosario will officiate. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 26 at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Visitation will be held at Medford United Methodist Church from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Florence was born on Aug. 31, 1925 in Downing to the late Edwin Charles and Mae Pearl (Barber) Smith. She attended Medford Elementary schools and was a 1943 graduate of Medford High School. She married Elmer M. Hedlund on June 24, 1950 at Medford United Methodist Church in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Elaine. Elmer preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1998.

For most of her life she worked as a homemaker and mother. She worked for periods of time at Hurd Millwork, State Bank of Medford and with her husband in the insurance business. She enjoyed photography, bird watching, camping, sewing, knitting, embroidery, fishing and, most of all, her son’s and their families. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Medford, where she was a past Sunday school teacher, active in the Women’s Circles, Keen Agers, sang in its church choir and was active in Bible studies.

Florence is survived by her sons, Kurt (Susan) Hedlund of Boulder City, Nev., Randal (Wendy) Hedlund of De Pere, Brian (Brenda) Hedlund of Medford and Robert Hedlund of Boulder City, Nev.; nine grandchildren, Brice (Sarah), Brittney (Nick) Bann, Brock (Inger), Brett, Ann (Kelly) Knauss, Matthew (Stephanie), Peter (Jennifer), Bart and Scott; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Smith of Medford and Betty McMullen of Waupaca.

In addition to her parents and husband, Florence was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Kramer; a brother, Edwin “Lee” Smith; and brother-in-law, Bill Kramer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to either the Medford United Methodist Church or Forest Springs of Westboro.
