Chief Master Sergeant Eugene H. Schafer of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) received the
Meritorious Service Medal and accompanying certificate during his retirement
ceremony at Duluth International Airport, Minnesota. Brigadier General Guy Hurst
Jr., commander 23rd Air Division, made the presentation. Sergeant Schafer, who
served as an aircraft maintenance supervisor at Duluth before his retirement,
was decorated for outstanding professional skill and dedication to duty. He has
more than 30 years of service and is a veteran of World War II and the Korean
War. The sergeant is a 1936 graduate of Owen High School, and his wife is the
former Pearl A. Hansen of Withee.
