Whitney, Ruth Loretta (Shepherd) (11 NOV 1917 - 1 APR 2018)
Ruth Loretta (Shepherd) Whitney passed away on Jan. 20, 2018 at Ladysmith Care
Community.
Ruth was born on Nov. 11, 1917 to Ernest and Cora (Petty) Shepherd in
Springfield, Neb. She attended school in Springfield married Herbert H. Whitney
on Dec. 18, 1933. They moved to Wisconsin in the 1940s and farmed in Catawba and
the Kennan area.
They operated the Soda Grill in Catawba until purchasing Whitney Bar and Grill
in 1945 in Catawba. She worked at the Catawba and Kennan schools, Northern Sash
and Door (Jen-Wen) and Phillips Plastics. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran
Church in Catawba.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Cora (James) Schultz of Ladysmith and seven
grandchildren, Wanda (John) Bleckschmidt, Dale (Lori) Prohaska, Wendy (Dave)
Retzlaff, Connie (Nick) Runnhein, Patty (Vic) Rabeht, Jay (Missy) Schultz,
Joelle Schultz and Bart (Meghan) Schultz. She is further survived by 19
great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Whitney; her
daughters, G. Janet Prohaska and Janice Ostling; her grandsons, Mike Ostling and
Mitch Schultz; her great-grandson, Scott Rabehl and all of her siblings, Oswald,
Martha, Vera, May, Berdetta, Bob, Ernest and DarrelL
There will be a celebration of life at 11 a.m. on May 5 at Bethany Lutheran
Church in Catawba for Ruth and her daughter, Janice (Whitney) Ostling.
