VandeBerg, Fern (9 September 1889 – 30 December 1974)
A York Center resident for nearly half a century, Mrs. Fern VandeBerg of
Neillsville, died December 30 at the age of 85. Interment in the York Center
Cemetery followed funeral services held Friday, January 3, from the Neillsville
United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Noble officiating. The
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
The daughter of Michael and Viola (Parker) Alton, Mrs. VandeBerg was born
September 9, 1889, in Monroe County. She was educated in Neillsville schools,
took teacher’s training and taught school before her marriage to Horace
VandeBerg on June 18, 1914, in Neillsville.
The couple farmed at York Center until his death September 19, 1953. Mrs.
VandeBerg continued to farm until she retired and moved to Neillsville in 1962.
A community leader, she was also very active in church affairs.
Mrs. VandeBerg was a member of the United Methodist Church and its UMW Society
and of the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include, four children: Harold VandeBerg of Neenah, Loyd VandeBerg of
Cheney, Wa., Gale VandeBerg of Madison and Russel VandeBerg of Neillsville; one
sister, Mrs. Elwin (Ida) Root of Merrill; and 15 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
