Makovec, John F. (24 JAN 1909 – 27 MAY 1971)

A coronary attack suffered while fishing on Clam Lake Thursday morning, May 27, 1971, claimed the life of John F. Makovec. He was 62 years of age.

Mr. Makovec had been a resident of Clam Lake for the past 30 years, where he served as caretaker at a large resort.

Funeral services were conducted from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home, Owen, at 2 p.m., May 30, with Rev. H.W. Luetkehoelter, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, being in charge. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Albert Novak, Louie Novak, Charles Kovatch, Mike Kovatch, Emil Untiedt and Joh Prepuleh.

The deceased was born January 24, 1909 in Wisconsin, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Makovec. In 1938 he and the former Esther Oelke were married at Fond du Lac.

His passing is mourned by his wife of Clam Lake; three sons, Capt. John Makovec of the United States Air Force, and now stationed in Florida, and William and Eugene at home; a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Carolyn) Zingler, San Francisco, California; two grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and Joseph Makovec, both of route 1, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.); and four sisters, Mrs. August (Molly) Mertens, Stanley; Mrs. Frank (Ann) Cole, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; Mrs. Eugene (Mary) Buker, Lake Minnetonka, Minn.; and Mrs. Joseph (Francis) Botsch, Whiting, Indiana.
