Poppe, John Ernest (29 July 1898 – 20 January 1975)
Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 p.m. from St.
John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for John Ernest Poppe, 76, of Neillsville,
who died Monday, January 20, following a brief illness. The Rev. Norman W.
Lindloff will officiate, and burial will follow in the Neillsville City
Cemetery.
The body of Mr. Poppe was to be in state at the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home from
2 p.m. Wednesday until noon today (Thursday). When it is to be taken to the
church to lie in state there for an hour before services.
John Poppe, son of Emil and Christine (Seif) Poppe, was born July 29, 1898, in
Neillsville and was educated in area schools. His marriage to the former Elsie
Hemp took place May 12, 1923, at Globe.
Mr. Poppe, who retired in 1959 when he and his wife moved to Neillsville, farmed
in the Town of Seif for many years. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are two children: Norman Poppe of Rt. 3
Neillsville, and Mrs. Wilmer (Ethel) Kroll of Rothschild; and four
grandchildren.
