Zimmer, Joseph F. (10 May 1893 – 22 January 1975)
A Neillsville area native and lifelong resident, Joseph F. Zimmer, died January
22 at his home in the city at the age of 81. Funeral services were held Satruday
from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Henseler of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church officiating. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
The son of Ben and Margaret (Murphy) Zimmer, he was born May 10, 1893, in the
Neillsville area and was educated in local schools. Mr. Zimmer entered the Army
June 10, 1916, at Neillsville and was discharged May 22, 1919, at Camp Grant,
Il., after serving in Europe with the 121st Division machine gun battalion.
After his discharge he returned to Neillsville where he worked for the Paulus
Ice Company and tended bar in various local taverns. He worked at Nelson Muffler
for many years and retired in 1960.
Mr. Zimmer was a 50-year member of Haugen-Richmond Post No. 73, American Legion,
and was also a member of Wilson-Heintz Post No. 2241, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
There are no immediate survivors.
Pallbearers were: Everett Skroch, John Gassen, Greg Gassen, Billy Dahlke, Jesse
Spieles and Bob Schiller. Mrs. John Schiesel was the organist.
