Poppe, John E. (29 July 1898 – 20 January 1975)
Funeral services were held Thursday from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
for John E. Poppe of Neillsville who died January 20. The Rev. Norman W.
Lindloff officiated, and burial followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home made the arrangements.
Pallbearers for Mr. Poppe were: Herman Hagedorn, Gerhardt Scheel, Alvin Jacob,
Albert Smith, LeRoy York and William Hoffmann.
The St. John’s Lutheran School choir sang “For Me to Live is Jesus” and “I’m But
a Stranger here.” Victor Lehmann was the accompanist.
Among those attending the services were the following from out of town: Mr. and
Mrs. Wilmer Kroll, Rothschild; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schwartz, Lloyd Mund, Kenneth
Prock and Mr. and Mrs. James Snyder and Kathy, Rockford, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. Al
Prock, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. John Hemp, Hatfield; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hemp,
Rochester, Mn.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hemp, Cottage Grove, Mn.; Mr. and Mrs. Arno
Miller and Walter Berthold, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Timmler, Loyal; Mr. and
Mrs. Victor Halbrader, Willard.
