Smazal, Donald D. (6 MAY 1954 – 24 APR 2018)

Colby - Donald D. Smazal, age 63, of Colby, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Colonial Center in Colby under the tender care of hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Donald was born May 6, 1954, the son of Charles and Clara (Ress) Smazal in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He was the 17th child out of 18. After his school years, Don was employed as a roofer and later as an auto mechanic. He was united in marriage to Shirley Arneson on September 11, 1976 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. They later divorced but remained good friends.

Don was a jack of all trades and if it was broke he could fix it. He liked playing pool, getting in on the packer pools, listening to country and western music and spending time with his family and friends and his Beloved Dog, Puggy Boy.

Donald is lovingly survived by his four children: Donna (Keith) Smith of Dorchester, Dawn (John) Kundinger of Abbotsford, Jamie of Kentucky and David of Lake Genoa; five grandchildren: Tanner, Leah, Logan, Carter, little Logan and one due in October. He is further survived by a brother; Kenneth (Judy) Smazal of Unity; five sisters: Clara Swanson of Wausau, Beverly Recore of Medford, Jeanette Smazal of Wausau, Marlene Golowski of Omro and Marcella "Sally" Smazal of Colby; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Billy Joe; five brothers: Charles, Edward, David, Victor and Eugene "Jack"; six sisters: Delores, Bernice, Lucille, Betty, Carol Krueger and Diana.

A special thank you to the Colonial Center for their love and support to our family. Some days were more challenging than others, but without their support we would have been at a loss. Also, thank you to St. Croix Hospice for their help and support. We shed a lot of tears, but we also knew he was in good hands. Our family will forever be grateful to ALL the people who worked with Donny. His only question was when am I going home? With a lighter heart, I can honestly say with a smile, "today, Donny you are home."
