Chaplain Capt. Matthew G. Malnar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Malnar of Greenwood
(Clark Co., Wis.), has been assigned to the Thirteenth Air Force and the 432
Combat Support Group at Udorn Royal Thailand Air Force Base, with reporting
month in October. Prior to leaving for his overseas tour from Travis AFB,
California, he will spend a leave with his parents in Greenwood.
Chaplain Malnar was commissioned an officer in the Air Force in 1972 and entered
upon extended active duty in June of the same year for a three year tour. He
completed his basic training and orientation at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, after
which he was assigned as one of three priests to Chanute, AFB, Illinois, an ATC
base of 25,000 personnel. At Chanute he served as parish priest, religious
instructor, chaplain to the student Catholic trainees, chaplain to the Catholic
patients at the USAF Regional Hospital, and was appointed to the Sub-committee
for Drug Abuse Control and Rehabilitation, and also to the Alcoholism Council.
Father Malnar will now be the Catholic base chaplain a Udorn and will minister
to the spiritual needs of approximately 3,000 Catholic male personnel.
