Bergen, Florence “Flo” M. (21 December 1926 – 23 July 2017)

Florence M. Bergen, 90 of Chippewa Falls died peacefully on Sunday, July 23rd at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls.

Florence was born on December 21, 1926 in Radisson, the daughter of Roy E. and Amy (Swenson) Metcalf. She graduated from Cameron High School. She married Max Henry Bergen – the love of her life – on June 14, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cameron. Together they raised three children. On June 14th they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a special meal at the Wisconsin Veterans Home with their family. They started their married life in Greenbush, moved to Cameron where their three sons were born, Rice Lake, Mankato, MN, Beloit, and Chetek. After their sons graduated from high school, Max and Florence moved to Neillsville where they owned and operated the Whitehorse Inn. Upon selling the Whitehorse Inn, they moved to Loyal where Florence and Max built her dream home.

Several years later they moved to Eau Claire where Max worked for L. E. Phillips Treatment Center. Upon retirement, they moved to The Villages in Lady Lake, Florida where they spent thirteen wonderful years enjoying golfing, swimming, and many new friendships. Florence loved to play cards and spend many hours in the sun. Missing their children, they moved back to Eau Claire in 2003 where they resided until they moved to The Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in January of 2015.

Florence was a loving wife and mother. Florence and Max told each other “I love you” every day. She never missed a sporting event or concert that her boys were a part of. She was a wonderful cook which served her well when they owned the Whitehorse Inn. Florence passed on many of her special recipes to her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family; especially her sons, daughters-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Florence loved her crossword puzzles and never found one she couldn’t solve.

Florence is survived by her loving husband Max, sons: Mark (Linda) of Holcombe, Rick of Brooklyn Park, MN, Robb (Linda) of Oakdale MN; four grandchildren, Carrie Bergen, Jennifer (Justin) Kron, Amy (Dustin) Kron, Kyle (Lydia) Bergen; and five great grandchildren, Charlie, Noah, Max, Eva, and Mila. She is further survived, by her brother Don Metcalf.
