Britten, Mary "Elaine" (Hannan) (18 JUL 1935 - 24 APR 2018)
Mary "Elaine" Britten, 82, of Island Lake, passed away at Woodstone Senior
Living, Rice Lake, on April 24, 2018, under their care and the Mayo Clinic
Health System Hospice System.
Mary was born on July 18, 1935 in Hazelton, Iowa, the daughter of Clement and
Margaret Hannan. She graduated from Stanley High School in 1953.
On April 14, 1956, Elaine married Nick Britten at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in Oelwein, Iowa. In June 1974, she and her family moved to Island Lake, where
she lived her remaining years. She was always busy and had a strong work ethic,
being employed for 16 years at the sewing factory in Bruce for 16 years, at
Processed Metals Innovators (PMI) in Bloomer for 21 years and many years in food
and retail services.
She loved her family and friends dearly, blessing them with her compassion,
contagious laugh, and phenomenal cooking and baking skills. Her apple pie,
banana bread and raspberry jam were almost infamous. She enjoyed the outdoors by
vegetable and flower gardening, helping with farm chores, and working with the
horses and cattle.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 62 years, Nick; her daughter, Jolene of
Bloomington, Minn.; her son, Frank of Island Lake; her granddaughter, Lindsey of
Highlands, Calif.; her grandsons, Nick and Josh, both of Island Lake; her
sisters, Mildred (George) of Waterloo, Iowa, Karen of Fayette, Iowa and Jan
(Bill) of Maynard, Iowa and her special sister-in-law, Linda Hannan of Oelwein
Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Marge and Kay and her
brothers, Jim, Wayne, Richard, Joe and David.
Services were held at Island Lake Church of Christ on Monday, April 30.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
