Witow, John “Johnny” (11 JUN 1933 - 1 MAY 2018)
John “Johnny” Witow, 84 formerly of Huron and Medford, Wisconsin, passed away
Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in Thorp after a courageous nine year battle with leukemia.
Johnny was born on June 11, 1933 to John and Barbara (Chubb) on the family farm
in the Town of Colburn in Chippewa County. Johnny attended Sunny View School and
the Ruby School in the town of Colburn.
He helped build up the family farm with his mother Barbara, grandparents and
Uncle Dan. He was a very loving son and cared for his mother in her later years.
Since the age of 15 Johnny has been an avid trapper and sportsman enjoying his
favorite pastime up until recently. After discontinuing farming he helped with
various jobs on many farms in the Gilman area. After moving to Medford he
continued helping the local farmers there as well as continuing his enjoyment of
trapping and hunting.
Johnny was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church and served
on the church board in various capacities for many years. He also helped take
care of the church, church grounds and cemetery.
Johnny is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara, his grandparents, Joseph and
Efruzinia Chubb and his uncle Daniel Chubb.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. John
the Baptist Orthodox Church in Huron with Father Herman Klarr officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to
services at the church on Friday.
Plombon Funeral Service-Stanley assisted the family.
