Schreck, La Barre M. (16 JUN 1927 - 5 MAY 2018)
La Barre M. Schreck 90, of Kennan, WI, passed away on May 5, 2018, at Aspirus
Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips while under the care of Flambeau Home
Health and Hospice.
He was born June 16, 1927 in Libertyville, IL, the son of Heman C. and Laura (Helfer)
Schreck. La Barre and his twin brother, LaVerne, were the youngest of seven
children. He was raised on the family farm in Libertyville, IL, and was a 1945
graduate of the Libertyville High school.
He went on to become a machinist and was employed at Barr-Don Machine Shop in
Libertyville, IL. He was married to Betty Rubeck in Mundelein, IL on December
25, 1951. La Barre and Betty owned and operated a small engine business and a
floral/greenhouse business and also helped her parents with a family restaurant
and motel. After selling the businesses they moved to Jensen Beach, Florida,
where he managed Super X stores for 13 years. In 1980 her purchased a farm in
Kennan, WI, and began dairy farming until his retirement in 1995. He also served
in the Town of Georgetown Board for many years. He enjoyed tractor shows, going
to auctions and buying and selling farm equipment. He also enjoyed traveling,
watching football, and spending time on his farm.
He is survived by three sons, Tim (Kathleen), New Freedom, WI, Tom (Jane),
Smyrna, TN, and Dean (Marena), Kennan, WI; by seven grandchildren, Takoda,
Michael, Cassie, George, Matthew, Billy, and Tommy; by great and great great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on July 17, 1999; by one son, Dale
Jay; by his parents; by brothers, Irvin, Edison, and Armour, Durward, and his
twin brother, LaVerne; by one sister, Wilma Follman; and by two aunts Jeanette
Roth and Maude Helfer.
Private family interment services will take place at the Harmony Cemetery in the
Town of Harmony with Pastor Jonn Morrow of the New Hope Baptist Church of Kennan
officiating.
