Elmhorst, Ronald Lee (12 December 1928 – 10 May 2018)
Ronald Lee Elmhorst, age 89, of Marshfield, died Thursday May 10, 2018 at the
Marshfield Medical Center.
He was born December 12, 1928 in rural Neillsville, son of the late Clarence and
Helen (Wagner) Elmhorst. He attended Reed Elementary School and graduated from
Neillsville High School in 1946. Ronald received his BS in agriculture from UW
Madison in 1950 and his MS in agriculture in 1969.
Ronald taught vocational agriculture at Shiocton High School from 1950 – 1952.
He taught in the same capacity at Manawa High School from 1952 – 1968.
Ronald developed the curriculum and taught a farm training program at Kenosha
Technical College from 1968 – 1974. Classes were located in Elkhorn, East Troy,
Lake Geneva and Delevan. He later developed a program taught at Mid-State
College from 1974 – 1987. Ronald served as Department Head of Agriculture
Education at the Marshfield Campus.
In addition to his career in education, Ronald owned and operated Manawa Floral
and Greenhouse from 1956 – 1968. He also owned and operated a dairy farm in the
town of Beaver, Clark County, from 1974 – 1993. He moved to Marshfield in 2003.
Ronald was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Marshfield, former president of
the St. Paul Lutheran School Board, Manawa and former president of the St.
Luke’s Church Council, South Green Grove.
He is lovingly survived by a sister; Dianne Vaughan, Spencer, as well as
nephews; Scott (Connie) Elmhorst, Eric (Jenna) Elmhorst, Wayne (Nancy) Vaughan,
Wade (Liz) Vaughan, Shane Vaughan, and nieces; Kristin (Gerald) Humphrey,
Brigette (Bruce) Witte and Trudy (Jeff) Schumacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wendell Elmhorst and a brother
in law; Clinton Vaughn.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday May 14, 2018 at Christ
Lutheran Church, Marshfield. Visitation will be from 10:00 am Monday until the
time of the service at the church. Burial will be in the Town of Grant Cemetery.
