Nick C. Nelson was born on Feb. 24, 1925. At the age of 93, surrounded by loved ones, he passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Heritage Lakeside in Rice Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda; his sons, Barry of Weyerhaeuser and James (Shelly) of Rice Lake; six grandchildren; Ashley, Tiffany, Kendra, Rhylin, Gauge and Shay.
Nick was born and raised in the township of Big Bend, son of Perry and Minnie Nelson. He was the youngest of eight children. After his father’s passing, he began working on the family farm at the age of 12.

In his early years, Nick worked for Cleaver-Brooks in Milwaukee, where he manufactured steam boilers. After working for the company for three years, Nick decided to move closer to home and in the early 1950s he co-owned and operated the Sports Shop in Chetek. The work was enjoyable and steady, but he needed to work with his hands. He always knew his way around an engine, so by the mid-50s, he accepted a position with the Ford garage in Chetek. In 1964, he started working for L. G. Arnold as a heavy equipment mechanic where he stayed until 1978. He then farmed until his retirement in 1984. Nick enjoyed wood-working with his sons and created many beautiful pieces that decorate the family home.

Nick and Linda were married on Jan. 4, 1967. They were blessed with four children; Faye Ann, Barry, Michelle and James. They shared 51 years of love and laughter, tears and trials. He will be forever loved and forever missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughters, Faye Ann and Michelle; his sisters, Eutha “Babe” Kern, Eula Tubbs, Maxine Borkowski and Daisy Wonn and his brothers,Ray, Irdale “Nub”, Austin and Argle.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 18 at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Bruce. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 at Island Lake Church of Christ with Dave Willingham officiating.

Burial will be in Island Lake Cemetery.
