Joe was born April 18, 1943 in Marshfield, the son of Lawrence and Anne (Jansen)
Hildebrandt. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force in
September of 1960 and later in 1963 was sent overseas to the Vietnam War serving
his country as an airplane mechanic until his honorable discharge in July 1964.
On September 2, 1967 Joe was united in marriage to Nancy Yost at Christ the King
Catholic Church in Spencer. Joe worked throughout the Midwest for The Mueller
Pipeline Company later being promoted to foreman. He retired from the pipeline
in 2005.
His hobbies included heading over to Yellow River Raceway to meet his racing
buddies for an exciting night of racing, following NASCAR racing, cheering on
his favorite driver Jeff Gordon or road tripping to Bristol International
Raceway with his friends. Joe was an avid Packer fan and loved watching his
grandchildren play sports. Nancy and their children remember that sometimes Joe
really enjoyed “just going for a ride”. He will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife Nancy Hildebrandt of Chili, his three children: Kurt
Hildebrandt of Chili, Denise (Mike) Wolf of Arpin and Dawn Miller of Boone, IA;
his five grandchildren: Samantha, Cassandra, Alexandra, Jackson and Gavin; his
siblings: Terry Akkerman of Wisconsin Rapids, Karen (Dale) Krasselt of Chili,
Jim (Barb) Hildebrandt of Stevens Point, Mike (Ruth) Hildebrandt of Chili, Tom
Hildebrandt of Marshfield and Peg (Dave) Grimm of Wisconsin Rapids; a
sister-in-law Jo Hildebrandt of Chili along with other nieces, nephews,
comrades, and many friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his son Keith and two brothers:
Charles and Lawrence, Jr. “Butch”.
If desired, memorials in Joe’s name are being accepted by his family for either
House of The Dove Marshfield or The Never Forgotten Honor Flight Program.
