Schreiber, Marcella A. (Carter) (13 MAY 1931 - 10 JUN 2018)
Marcella A. Schreiber, age 87, of Abbotsford, passed away peacefully surrounded
by her loving family on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Dycora Transitional Health in
Abbotsford under the tender care of hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2018
at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. Father George Graham will officiate.
Interment will follow at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are
welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13 at the Maurina-Schilling
Funeral Home in Abbotsford and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday at
the church.
Marcella was born on May 13, 1931, the daughter of Alfred and Leona (Van Dreel)
Carter in the Town of Hull. She attended Abbotsford High School. On November 17,
1948, Marcella was united in marriage to Roman Schreiber at St. Thomas Catholic
Church in Milan. Together they farmed until she retired at the age of 70.
Marcella was a member of St. Thomas, taught CCD and held many offices in the
Altar Society. She also held multiple offices with Catholic Family Fraternity
Dorchester Branch and the Milan Community Club. Marcella loved cooking,
especially for her large family. Her family's favorites were her famous potato
salad, stuffing, dill pickles and beef soup. She had a large garden and did a
lot of canning. Marcella made the pickles for ball tournaments in Milan.
She also liked to crochet, including making afghans, baby sweaters, and baby
blankets. Marcella enjoyed bowling, playing cards, reading and dancing to polkas
and waltzes. She and Roman went on several vacations with friends. She
especially loved to attend her children's and grandchildren's softball games.
Marcella was a cancer survivor of 25 years. Most importantly, she was cherished
by her family.
Marcella is survived by her husband of 69 years, Roman of Abbotsford; 11
children: Mary (Arnie) Krautkramer of Marathon, Gerard (Gale) Schreiber of
Athens, Clyde (Irene) Schreiber of Unity, Bonnie Lake of Abbotsford, Rebecca
(Jeff) Schaefer of Abbotsford, Cinthia (Mike) Beran of Athens, Alice Langjahr of
Colby, Lucy (Doug) Schmidt of Athens, Kathy (Rick) Ewert of Medford, Lee
(Jackie) Schreiber of Athens and Tracy (Sue) Schreiber of Medford; 34
grandchildren: Renee (Mark) Huebsch, Philip (Brittany) Krautkramer, Steven
Krautkramer (Heidi Hurley), Joshua (Cathy) Knecht, Justin (Bobbie Jo) Knecht,
David (Amanda) Knecht, Bradley (Natasha) Knecht, Andy (Jennifer) Knecht, Jeremy
(Kristi) Schreiber, Russell (Lisa) Schreiber, Gabriel (Molly) Schreiber, Natalie
(Alex) Guerrero, Shaun Lake (Julie Krenz), Brandon Lake, Gina (Erik) Brown, Ben
Schaefer, Luke Schaefer, Ayla Schaefer (Jayson Heier), Eric (Jennifer) Beran,
April (Steve) Wirtala, Jason (Cassandra) Beran, Steven (Samantha) Langjahr, Beth
(Brett) Behrens, Kelly (Caleb) Mock, Timothy (Grace) Schmidt, Cody (Jackie)
Schmidt, Ryan Ewert (Sydney Schilcher), Ross Ewert (Alexandra Halldorson),
Joshua Clark (Morgan Pankrantz), Becca Schreiber (Will Szews), Grant Schreiber,
Reiley Schreiber, Rachael Schreiber and Aedan Schreiber; 52 great-grandchildren
and a son-in-law, Robert Knecht of Spencer.
She is further survived by four siblings: Arlene Weiland of Marshfield,
Geraldine Rottier of Green Bay, Melvin (Marlene) Carter of Colby and Shirley
Zettler of Edgar; a brother-in-law, George Schreiber of Athens and a
sister-in-law, Sister Loretta Schreiber of Merrill; many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joan Knecht, and a son,
Martin Schreiber; a grandson, Chip Schaefer; a great-grandson, Zayne Brown; her
brother, Ronald Carter; three brothers-in-law, Father Bernard Schreiber,
Clarence Schreiber and August Schreiber.
