A double ring ceremony was performed February 7, 1976 joining Pamela M. Autio,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Autio, and Darrel D. Williams, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Dewey J. Williams. Rev. Robert Olson performed the 2 p.m. marriage ceremony
at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thorp. The organist was Jody Losiewicz.
The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a long white dress with groups
of tiny pastel flowers. The dress had short cape sleeves with a square neckline.
She carried a small bouquet with pink daisies, yellow and white carnations and
white baby‘s breath with greens.
The maid of honor was Shirlee M. Mattes, cousin of the bride. She wore a long
live green dress with an attached hood, and carried a large yellow mum. David J.
Abramczak, friends of the groom, was the best man.
A small reception was held at Club 73. It was there that the couple cut the cake
and opened gifts.

Thorp High School sent 34 students of business subjects to the area leadership
conference of the Future Business Leaders of America held Saturday, February 14,
1976 at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
Thorp High School won the first place award for Parliamentary Procedure.
The area conferences of Future Business Leaders of America are held in
anticipation of the state leadership conference to be held in April. Attending
the area conference at the UW-Eau Claire on February 14 were 474 high school and
junior high students from 35 communities in northern Wisconsin.

Once again Thorp High School has a foreign exchanges student. Her name is
Patricia Montanes. Patricia came to Thorp Thursday, February 12, 1976. She will
be staying six months. During that time Patricia will be staying at the Francis
Hedler residences and at the Milo Webb residence.
Patricia is the daughter of Luis Huberto Montanes Bejar and Lucy Rios de
Montanes. She is seventeen years old and is from Medellin, Columbia. Patricia
attended the Termine Secundaria school in Medellin. Her plans are to study
Micro-biology or Medicine, American Literature, Art, Library, Phyed, Modern
Civilization, Bachelor Living, Communications, and psychology are the classes
Patricia is taking at Thorp High.
When Patricia was asked how she like Thorp, she said, “I like it a lot, it’s a
small town and it’s very quiet and the people are all very nice.”

Carol (Deutschlander) Symbal, 35, passed away at Hennepin General Hospital,
Minneapolis of a lingering illness on Saturday, February 21, 1976/
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 25th, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church, Thorp, with Rev. Robert Olson officiating. Burial was made in
the East Thorp Cemetery.

Fletcher, Joan M. (1896? – 14 Feb 1976)
Mrs. Joan M. Fletcher, 79, formerly of 3452 Anderson Road, Eau Claire, died
Saturday evening, February 14, 1976.
The former Joan M. Jacobson was born in the Town of Thorp, Clark County. She was
married to Roy R. Fletcher June 16, 1920 in Milwaukee.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lester R. Aaron, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Jerry
Kuehn, Spring Valley; one sister, Thilda Jacobson, and two brothers, Arthur and
James Jacobson, all of Stanley; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 18 at Hope Lutheran Church.

Jurgelewicz, Stella (Nov 1898 – 7 Feb 1976)
Stella Jurgelewicz, 77, passed away February 7, 1976 at Regency Nursing Home,
Niles, Illinois.
Mrs. Jurgelewicz was born in November 1898 at Wilna, Poland. She came to the
states in 1914, arriving at New York, New York. After her marriage to Charles
Jurgelewicz, they farmed for 40 years in the Lublin area. She also resided at
Owen and now at Park Ridge, Illinois.
Surviving are three daughters, (Anna) Mrs. Henry Balicki, Withee, (Josephine)
Mrs. Joseph Balicki, Thorp, (Mary) Mrs. Theodore Woytowicz of Park Ridge,
Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her husband, two sons, Louis and Joseph, and two brothers, Nicholas and
Bruno.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church, Lublin
on Wednesday, February 11 at ten a.m., with Rev. Steven Krawiec officiating.
Burial was made in the parish cemetery. A wake was held at the Meil Funeral Home
in Chicago and a wake was held at eight p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home on
February 10.
Pallbearers were: Theodore D. Woytowicz, Dallas, Texas, Henry C. Balicki,
Chicago, Walter Woytowicz, Gilman, Daniel Balicki, Thorp, Gerald Balicki,
Marshfield, and Robert Ricciotti, Lindenhurst, Illinois.

Jerry Meyer, a music student at the UW-Stevens Point, is a member of the
university’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, which is touring several Wisconsin and
Minnesota communities this week to give concerts.
Meyer, who plays tuba, is a junior majoring in instrumental music education. In
addition to wind ensemble, he also is a member of university choir, Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfonia, music educational national conference and brass choir.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Meyer, 204 E. Stanley Street, Thorp.

Certificates of recognition are being mailed to students who excelled
academically during the fall semester at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens
Point.
Dr. John B. Ellery, a vice chancellor for academic affairs, announced that more
than 20 percent of the total number of 8,220 persons qualified for inclusion on
the honor roll.
Earning honors from Thorp were Janice Beckman and Sharon Stuesser.
