Fire completely destroyed the barn on the former Al Bartelt farm east of Gad
Wednesday evening, June 2, 1943, at about 10:30. The place is now owned by Wm.
Dassow, who lives on another arm 1 ½ miles west of there.
The cause of the fire is not known. Mr. Dassow had been farming the place but
was not using the barn. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kretschmer have occupied the house but
Wednesday, they were at Rib Lake, where Mr. Kretschmer has been working. There
was no lightning storm going on at the time. Ted Weiler was the first one to
notice the blaze.
The barn was a large one around 35X60 feet, but quite old.
