Niemi, Laina (13 JUL 1901 – 4 OCT 1971)
At two o'clock yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, October 6, 1971, funeral services
for Mrs. Laina Niemi were conducted from Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen. The Rev.
V. Puotinen, Ironwood, Michigan, was in charge of the serve, and burial was made
at Riverside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Kangas, Douglas Braithwaite, Voitto Mutka, Chris Backe,
Wally Havelin, and Reino Maki.
Mrs. Niemi, 70, died at 7 p.m. Sunday in her home in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) of
an apparent heart attack.
The former Laina Julia Raisanen was born July 13, 1901, at Wakefield, Michigan,
and received her education there. She was married in Wakefield to Kauno Niemi,
on December 12, 1920. The couple resided in Michigan until 1927, when they came
to the Withee area. They farmed in the town of Hixon until 1958, when they moved
into the village of Withee.
Survivors include her husband, two sons, Edwin, Normal, Illinois; and Allen,
Withee; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lila
Abrams, Merriweather, Michigan; and Olga Raisanen, Florida; and two brothers,
Isaac Raisanen, Wakefield, Michigan; and Edwin Raisanen, Marquette, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by a son in 1969.
