Rothenburger, Carl George (19 November 1891 – 24 February 1975)
Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock from Zion
American Lutheran Church in the Town of Grant for Carl George Rothenburger, 83,
of Rt. 1 Neillsville, who died Monday, February 24, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in
Marshfield. The Rev. Stephen Engelstad will officiate, and interment will be
made in the church cemetery.
The body of Mr. Rothenburger was to be in state from 2 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at the
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home and at the church for one hour preceding the
services.
Born November 19, 1891, in Erlighein, Germany, to George and Caroline (Umbach)
Rothenburger, he was educated in Germany and came to the United States in 1913,
settling at Elkton, Mn. Mr. Rothenburger worked for several farmers in that area
until 1920 when he purchased his own farm which he operated until 1937 when the
Rothenburgers moved to a farm near Granton. The family moved to a farm in the
Town of Grant in 1954, and he farmed there until retiring in 1961 because of
failing health.
His marriage to the former Frieda Pinke took place January 26, 1925, at Elkton,
Mn. The couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary last month.
Mr. Rothenburger was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of
Grant.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two children: Robert Rothenburger of
Madison and Mrs. Jon (June) Karnitz of Wisconsin Rapids; one brother, Bernhard
Rothenburger of Erlighein, Germany; and six grandchildren.
