Jacobsen, Richard “Old Man” A. (8 DEC 1931 - 20 JUN 2018)
Richard “Old Man” A. Jacobsen, 86, of the Township of Medford, passed away on
Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at his residence, under the loving care of his family
and Hope Hospice.
There will be a military rites ceremony performed by the Medford Area Military
Honors Team at 4 PM to be followed by a memorial open house gathering from 4-8
PM on Friday, June 29 at the Medford VFW Clubhouse, Medford.
Richard was born on December 8, 1931 at Ayer, Massachusetts, to Burr and Bernice
Julia Louise (Welsh) Jacobsen. He attended Taylor County elementary schools, in
the Town of Hammel.
On May 12, 1956, at Minneapolis, MN, he was married to Shirley Marie Hamm, she
survives.
After his education, he entered the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After their marriage, they resided in Minneapolis, MN where he worked for
Production Corporation of America. They moved back to the Medford area where he
managed Strama’s Restaurant, worked for Neil Spreen Construction and the City of
Medford until his retirement. In retirement, he worked part-time at the Farmacy.
He enjoyed golf, gardening, bowling & playing cribbage. He is a member of Holy
Rosary Catholic Church, Medford and the Medford VFW Club.
Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Jacobsen, Medford; children, David
(Renee) Jacobsen and Paul (Carol) Jacobsen both of Medford; 3 grand-children
Justin & Nicole Jacobsen, and Jeff Lavin; 1 great grandchild, Hailey Lavin;
Half-Siblings, Linda (Ernest) Amidon of Massachusetts & Bruce (Sheila) Jacobsen
of Blacksburg, South Carolina.
He is also survived by adopted family member, Tom (Sabina) Strama, Joe Strama,
Bruce (Jane) Strama, all of Medford, Mary Ann (John) Van der Hagen of Leander,
Texas, Cheryl Eden of Eau Claire, Jim Olson of Kerrville, Texas and Arlene
Strama of Medford.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, Burr and Bernice Julia Louise (Welsh)
Jacobsen; and deceased adopted family, Stan & Josephine Strama, Jim Strama,
Janet Jordan & Louise Olson.
