Peavey, Kathryn (Jay) (30 JUN 1920 - 23 JUN 2018)

Kathryn (Jay) Peavey, 97, of Eau Claire passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Oakwood Gardens in Altoona.

Kathryn was born in Macomb, Ill. on June 30, 1920 to Erskine and Catherine (Ryan) Jay. She was raised on a farm near Ladysmith. On March 6, 1962 she was married to Harold Peavey at Ormond Beach, Fla.

Kay was a faithful and active member of the First Congregational Church in Eau Claire. She visited members and volunteered in many ways. She was grateful for the Wheels of Welcome program and for great friends, which allowed her to attend worship and activities long after she was no longer able to drive herself.

Kay and Harold loved traveling, and spent many winters in Port Aransas, Texas. She also enjoyed trips all over the country to visit family and friends. Kay and Harold’s garden at their home on LaSalle Street took over the back yard and was the envy of many. If you couldn’t find her, just look in the garden. She would gladly share her amazing talent with you. She attained the rank of Master Gardener, and won many awards over the years for her floral arrangements. Her wit and wisdom were legendary. The queen of one liners, she often had those around her roaring with laughter. She taught us the best days were those you laughed so hard you snorted! Faith, family, friends, and flowers were the heart of her life.

Kay is survived by her sister, Rose Larson; her sister-in-law, Lillian Jay; her step-son, Chuck of Montana; and her nieces and nephews, Kathryn Larson, Peggy (Todd) Miller, Leslie (Dean) Frisle, Diane Sandnes, JoAnn Jay, Thomas (Rebecca) Jay, John B. (Tammy) Jay, Catherine (Dale) Didion, Elizabeth (Roy) Crawford, John E. Jay, Chris (Katie) Jay and Raymond (Carol) Jay. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Kenneth Jay, John Jay and Raymond Jay; her step-children, Harold “Pete” Peavey, Virginia Arndt and Polly Bugni; her nephews, Terry Jay and Robert Sandnes and four grandchildren. Amen & Good-bye!

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 9 at First Congregational Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice in Kay’s memory. Her favorites included: Wheels of Welcome at the First Congregational Church of EC, Feed My People, Beaver Creek Reserve, and area free clinics.

Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving her family.
