Rain held off until the closing of the formal dedication of Chequamegon Waters
flowage Sunday afternoon at the Miller Dam area. A large crowd attended in spite
of inclement weather.
The Gilman high school band under the direction of Lloyd Cuddebach played a
pre-program concert and also played during the program which began with the
National Anthem. A speakers platform was set up on the lawn at Miller Dam
resort.
George James, Milwaukee regional forester for the US forest service, was the
main speaker. He cited Taylor county for its efforts to upgrade the area’s
economy by developing natural resources for recreational purposes. He told of
the growing need for additional recreational areas in Wisconsin, stating that
Taylor country has set an example of what can be done by areas to improve their
facilities.
