Vincent, Sylvester “Sam” (18 March 1885 – 9 March 1975)
Sylvester (Sam) Vincent, 89, of Merrillan, died Sunday morning, March 9, at the
Black River Falls Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 18, 1885, in Pigeon Falls to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vincent. He
was employed as a brakeman on the Green Bay and Western railroad and the Soo
line for 52 years, retiring in 1957.
He married Elzora Burlingame and they lived in Escanaba, Mi., for several years,
moving to Merrillan about 35 years ago. Following his retirement, he served
several years as village marshal in Merrillan.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Neal (Buelah) Rose, of Rockford, Il.; a son,
Jack, of Cape Coral, Fl., three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Merrillan United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Calvin Carey officiating. Burial was made in Oakwood
Cemetery at Merrillan.
