Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cole were honored today as the Clark County 1971 Farmers Home
Administration Family of the year. The Cole's received a "Certificate of Merit"
in recognition of contributions to the improvement of the home community, both
socially and economically through a successful family farm operation.
Mr. and Mrs. Cole own and operate a 240 acre farm near Loyal (Clark Co.),
Wisconsin, and have 46 cows, plus young stock. They have seven children, ranging
in age from 8 through 25. They purchased the original farm of 160 acres in 1954,
and added 80 acres to this in 1969.
Since the original purchase they have added 62 feet of the barn, erected two
silos, constructed a 44 x 100 foot machine shed, modernized the dwelling, and
constructed a new Grade "A" milk house. They have also carried on soil
conservation practices and cooperated with SCS, ASCS and Extension Service in
adopting modern farm management practices.
The award was in competition with 45 other country winnder sfor the State FHA
family of the Year, which was made on October 20, 1971.
