Nielsen, Herdis (14 AUG 1900 – 9 JAN 1972)
Mrs. Richard (Herdis) Nielsen, 71, a lifelong resident of the Withee (Clark Co.,
Wis.) area, died Sunday, January 9, 1972 at Lake Forest, Illinois, where she had
been visiting.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 12 at Nazareth Lutheran
Church in Withee, with Rev. Robert Sullivan, pastor, officiating. Burial was
made in the church cemetery.
The former Herdis Rasmussen was born August 14, 1900, in Superior and came to
the Withee area as a child. She was married there on June 2, 1923, to Richard
Nielsen, who survives her. The couple resided in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho for two
years after their marriage, and returned to Withee I 1925. They had farmed in
the Town of Hixon (Clark Co., Wis.) until 1950.
Mrs. Nielsen was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, and had held
offices in in various church organizations.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Wallace
(Virginia) Lindow, Wauwatosa; Mrs. Marshall (Irene) Peppell and Mrs. Eldon
(Mary) Catura, both of Marshfield; Mrs. Bert (Dorothy) Egan, Hoffman Estates,
Illinois; and Mrs. James (Sonja) Bonk, Peshtigo; a son, John Nielsen, Norge,
Virginia; 21 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Leon Smith and Mrs. Harold
Christensen, both of Withee; and five brothers, H.B. Rasmussen, Spooner; Torvald
Rasmussen, Tyler, Minnesota; Ove Rasmussen, Menomonie; Arnold Rasmussen, Withee,
and Viggo Rasmussen, La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by a son.
The family announce that a memorial fund will be established in her name.
