Abilene, Texas – U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Bruce D. Schwieso, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Theodore Schwieso, rural Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), has been decorated with
the Distinguished Flying Cross for aerial achievement in Vietnam.
Sgt. Schwieso distinguished himself as a C-123 Provided cargo-troop carrier
loadmaster when he participated in re-supply missions into a forward airstrip.
Although his aircraft came under intensive hostile mortar attack, he skillfully
and expeditiously performed his duties, thus minimizing the crew's ground time.
He was presented the medal at Dyess AFB, Texas, where he now serves with a unit
of the Tactical Air Command, which provides combat units for air support of U.S.
ground forces.
The sergeant is a 1968 graduate of Loyal High School.
