Funk, George (14 JUL 1884 – 24 APR 1972)
George Funk passed away April 24, 1972 at his home in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) at
the age of 87 years and three months. He was born in the Town of Hixon (Clark
Co.) July 14, 1884. He lived in the village of Withee since the age of 10, until
his death.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home
on Wednesday, April 26th. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery, Withee, with
Edward Baum officiating.
Mr. Funk has served as maintenance man for more than 30 years, and after 26
years, had the Year Book dedicated to him. As a young man he was very active in
sports, in which he excelled. He spent many hours at Black River boating,
fishing, Swimming and teaching his children and many others in the vicinity how
to enjoy sports. He, too, was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge.
He never outgrew his love for entertaining small children. Up until the time of
his death he still found time and energy to spend with his grandchildren, great
nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Survivors are his wife, Norman, of Thorp; five daughters, Mrs. William (Ethel)
Engel, Withee; Mrs. Byrl Flaaten, Burlington, Iowa; Mrs. Dorothy Baum, Withee;
Mrs. Thelma O'Maria, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Mrs. Priscilla Heuer, Thorp; one
son, Robert Funk, Milwaukee; two sisters, Miss Theresa Funk and Mrs. L.H. (Ida)
Munson, Withee; sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
