Cyprus Minerals Company of Denver, CO has taken over management responsibilities
of the Jump River Joint Venture, a mining exploration project in Taylor, Lincoln
and Oneida counties.
The company replaces Ernest K. Lehmann & Associates of Wisconsin, Inc., the
Minneapolis-based geological consulting firm that had managed the project since
it was begun her in the fall of 1990.
The Bend Project, which has been on hold for several months because of funding,
market demand and the need for more research, involves a proposed underground
mine on US Forest Service land in the Town of Westboro, about six and one half
miles north of Perkinstown and 16 miles northwest of Medford.
Company officials said test samples taken in 1990 were “very encouraging,” and
based on that data, they hope to remove about 300,000 tons of copper and gold
ore per year for at least 10 years.
