Warns, Ethel (13 APR 1903 – 25 APR 1972)
Mrs. Jack (Ethel) Warns, age 69, of 134 Columbia Street, Chippewa Falls, passed
away at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 1972 at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, after
a lingering illness.
She was born April 13, 1903 at Midway, Wisconsin, daughter of Ben Whitbeck, and
Nina Swartout. She moved to Chippewa Falls in 1951, from Owen (Clark Co., Wis.),
and was employed for 10 years at the Northern Colony, and also at Watermans. She
was married to Jack Warns on March 4, 1924 in St. Bernard's Church at
Abbotsford. Mrs. Warns was a member of the Auxiliary of World War I Barracks
2905, the St. Charles Altar Society, and a former president of the Altar Society
of Sacred Heart Church in Withee. She was also a former 4-H Club Leader in
Taylor and Clark Counties,a nd a member of St. Charles Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; two sons, Jack Jr. of Withee, and Bud
Warns of Chippewa Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Melvin (June) Lavine of Chippewa
Falls; one brother, Ted Whitbeck of Fairbanks, Alaska; three sisters, Mrs.
Rosalie Burke of Marshfield; Mrs. Henry (Alberta) Thompson of La Crosse, and
Blanche of California, and eleven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Whitbeck, four
brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 28, at St. Charles Church, Chippewa
Falls, with the Very Rev. Charles Wolf officiating. Interment was made in Forest
Hill Cemetery at Chippewa Falls.
The St. Charles Altar Society said a Rosary at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home, and formed a Guard of Honor at the church Friday morning before and after
the Mass.
The Auxiliary of World War I Barracks 2905 conducted their ritual service at the
funeral chapel on Thursday evening.
