Laakso, Solomon (7 OCT 1882 – 28 MAY 1972)

Funeral services were held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, May 31, 1972 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen, for Solomon Laakso, 80, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), who died Monday at Memorial Hospital, Stanley.

The Rev. Robert Sullivan of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, officiated, and burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Voitto Mutka, Pentha Puro, Andrew Kallio, William Kangas, Arne Holpanen and Oscar Makkonen.

Mr. Laakso was born October 7, 1882 in Finland, and came to the United States in 1902. His first marriage took place in September 1905, in Marquette, Michigan, to Ingrid Wanska, who preceded him in death in April 1954. His second marriage was in November 1954, to Hulda Korpyla, who survives him. He resided in Michigan until coming to the Owen area in 1912, and farmed near Owen, in the Town of Hoard until 1946, when he retired and moved into the city. He was also employed as a plasterer and mason for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Einar, Owen; Arne, route 2, Owen, and Elmer, Portage; three daughters, Mrs. Emil (Tynni-Makinen), Bruce Corssing, Michigan; Mrs. William (Martha) Machek, Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Emil (Elsie) Potocnik, Owen; thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and two grandchildren.
