Wood, William A. (30 OCT 1951 – 9 JUN 1972)
The fifth highway death of the year was recorded two and one-half miles
northeast of here in the Town of Hoard (Clark Co., Wis.) shortly after midnight
Friday, June 9, 1972, when William A (Willie) Wood, 20, was pronounced dead on
arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Clark County authorities sid Wood died of head injuries when an eastbound car
which he was driving went out of control on a town road, 2 1/2 miles northeast
of Owen in the town of Hoard, struck a culvert, and overturned in a field
shortly after midnight.
Wood and a passenger in the car, Frederick Letvinuck, 25, route 3, Greenwood,
were thrown out of the car and landed about 15 feet from the wrecked vehicle.
Letvinuck suffered fractured left arm and finger injuries, for which he is being
treated t St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
A passing motorist reported the accident to Clark County authorities.
Investigating at the scene were Office Everett Lindgren, Owen; Coroner Robert
Lulloff; Sheriff David Bertz, and Withee Police Chief Arthur Le Page.
Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hoeper-Kraut Funeral Home, Owen,
with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
William Wood was born October 30, 1951, and attended Frenchtown Grade School and
Owen-Withee High School, where he played football for three years. He had been
employed by the Freeport Silo company, Withee, and the Harvey Corporation at
Medford.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Wood, rural Withee,
are a sister, Mrs. Gilbert (Janet) Cardinal, Withee, and two nieces.
