Laakso, Hulda (31 MAR 1888 – 9 JUL 1972)
Final rites for Mrs. Hulda Laakso were conducted Tuesday, July 11, 1972 at 2
p.m. from Bethany Lutheran Church here. Mrs. Laakso died Sunday, July 9 , 1972
at the Havenet Nursing Home in Owen, where she was a resident. The Rev. Robert
Sullivan, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, officiated.
Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery, Withee.
Casket bearers were Arne Holpanen, Tom Jablonic, Milton Seaman, Hugo Salo, Neilo
Kytola, and Toivo Maninen.
The former Hulda Nirva was born in Finland March 31, 1888. She was married to
Matt Nyysti in Finland in 1906, and came to Michigan in 1910. They moved to a
farm in the Town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1919, and he died in 1944. She
was married to Guss Korpyla in 1949, and he passed away in 1954. She married
Solomon Laakso in November of 1955, and he died May 29, 1972.
Survivors include one son, Donald Nyysti, Cadott; three daughters, Mrs. Frank
(Kay) Hendricks, Crandon; Mrs. Henry (Lillian) Roberts, Iron River, Michigan;
Mrs. Alvin (Lila) Boeck, Wahpeton, North Dakota; 13 grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren, and six step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Nyysti, in 1964.
